"Coffee With..." is a blog brought to you by The Forge. Every month, we sit down for a coffee chat with industry professionals who are doing cool things in the world of film. Whether they're behind the camera or in front of it, these individuals bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and inspiring stories from the heart of the entertainment industry.

Today, we sit down for coffee with the wonderful Collin Quinn Rice, Actor & Photographer.

What are you working on personally right now? Writing a novel? Hosting a podcast? Tell us how you use your creativity outside of work.

I am currently knitting a sweater and recording/editing a D&D podcast called "Slay! A Queer DnD Podcast" (find us on Spotify 😈)!

What is a resource you wish you had when you first started out in this industry?

I wish I had been given a bigger picture about what the day-to-day life of an actor looks like! I stumbled into my work as a photographer by chance and luck, but before that I had to work really hard to create balance between capitalism, artistry, and my personal life. I think more transparency only helps us create a stronger community and better art!

Is there a specific film, or moment in film history that you feel especially connected to? What inspired you to pursue a career in film?

A recent film that has really inspired me is "I Saw the TV Glow" by Jane Schoenbrun. I love how non-narrative it is, frequently relying on atmosphere and visuals to keep the story moving forward. I can credit my pursuit in the arts to two things: my high school biology teacher Mrs. Vogt and a fortune cookie that said, "The simplest answer is to act." Without those two nudges, I could have very well studied mathematics or fine art. I think I've always seen the world through an artist's lens, questioning everything and attempting to make meaning out of everyday, pedestrian moments. Once I accepted myself as an artist, there was no turning back.

What is your favorite advice to give actors?

You are not auditioning for me! You have nothing to prove. (And, BREATHE.)
