Friends of the Forge
We are hosting our friends at Flyover Film Studios for a ✨filmmaking intensive ✨ on Saturday, November 22nd, and we just had to let you in on it. Oh, btw...it's only $20.
About the Intensive
Learn filmmaking four ways with four filmmakers in one day: Camera, Grip & Electric, Art (Production Design, Hair/Makeup, and Wardrobe), and Direction (Casting, Directing, and Creative Producing) - Imagine film school, but it's one day, taught by working professionals.
Welcome to Filmmaking 4x4, a one-day intensive that highlights four big parts of filmmaking to give folks an opportunity to learn about the industry, without going to a full film school program. In one day, four groups of filmmakers will walk you through their department, what the needs of that department are, and how to get started in film if those needs sound exciting to you.
Camera - Learn a day-in-the-life of the camera team from being the first line of defense for safety, netting images and creative decisions, and making stories three-dimensional.
Grip & Electric - Learn the ins and outs of working with designers, bring literal shape to the story with lighting, rigging, running electrical, and supporting the camera department. Everything from how to distribute electricity to what level of opacity is needed for the right diffusion - if any of this sounds electrifying to you, you're in the right place. ⚡️
Art - The art department is a big one, and is responsible for bringing visuals to the story, from hair and makeup to the wallpaper that the production designer chooses. We'll cover what the art department needs by talking to Production Designers, hair/makeup artists, and wardrobe stylists about how they craft a visual world.
Direction - Kick off the creative conversation with creative producing, what that means, and what your responsibilities (like finding a director) are. We'll chat about direction, talking to actors, and how to communicate to a crew from prep through post for directors. Casting will dig into how the casting process works, what casting directors are looking for.
The Layout of the Day
Introductions - We'll start class with brief introductions of who the filmmakers are, split you into groups, and move into the learning!
Quad One & Two - Camera & Direction
Quad Three & Four - Art Direction & Grip/Electric
Wrap it Up - We'll wrap the day by 1:00 pm and send you out into the world to start making movies (hopefully with people you've made friends with from class!)
